Aldershot U9's vs Wield U9's, Saturday 27th April

Wield U9s travelled to the first game of the season at Aldershot. Despite the Arctic Circle having moved south overnight we had a memorable victory. Aldershot batting first were dismissed for 237-5 and Wield replied with 303-2, a win of 66 runs and three wickets. The team, ably captained by Wilf, won the game and were very unified and encouraging with each other: good backing up in the field and no 4s let through. Charlie took the first wicket in the third over and finished on 6-1. Wilf’s bowling figures were 5-2, clean bowling the final batsman on the last ball of the innings, and Sam also took 2 wickets, conceding 13 runs. Sam also took a catch as did Ellie.

After a delicious and warming tea as the Arctic temperatures began to rise a fraction Wield came into bat and the first pairing of Charlie and George knocked off 19 runs: we were off to a blistering start. Barney and Sam followed and another 23 was racked up without conceding a wicket. Barney top scored for the innings with 18no. Ellie and Oliver followed and Ellie took the attack onto a new level with 4s and a 6 with Oliver supporting at the other end with a solid 3. The last two batsmen, Gilbert and Wilf piled on the misery for Aldershot scoring 14 and 11 respectively, both not out.

Barney is Man of the Match for the first game of the season after his outstanding 18no including three 4s.

An excellent opener for the season with very good performances all round. Many thanks to Colin for scoring and Ian for coaching on the side-lines.
