Wield vs Bournemouth Wanderers, Sunday 30th June

Weather - Hot Hot Hot!!

Match summary – Scraped a draw from the jaws of defeat (and heat!!)

Once again our skipper lost/won/pleaded/arranged the toss and unsurprisingly we were in the field. The only difference this week was summer had arrived and the temperature was heading towards 30 degrees!!!

All the best skippers lead by example! so with this in mind our glorious leader gave us a fabulous demonstration of how not to field. Ball after ball rolled/crept/dribbled/meandered/trickled towards Yorkie and ball after ball was missed/dropped/fumbled/waved at!!!! with our leader to his right and ours truly to his left Ben did an awful lot of running up and down the hill to collect shots that Yorkie had missed.

With Bournemouth Wanderers being considerably older than us
(yes I know hard to believe!!!!) the scoring was sedate matching the weather. Aidan grabbed his first wicket of the season which brought the opposition's only youngster to the crease. Being young and exuberant meant it was only a short while before he tried to pull one only to find the ball had stopped and slowly landed on top of the bails (a typical Wield dismissal!!!) This brought BW's 2 oldest players to the crease and they preceded to move the scoring along and the possibility of a stroke!!!

Philip came on to slow the pace even further with his grenade's taking on a "Flight of Icarus" approach to bowling ie.they flew in the air so high and for such a long time that there was a chance they may set alight!!!!

Yorkie swapped the bowling around while continuing with his personal fielding masterclass, this display of bobbins fielding was ruined by a swooping one handed pick up and throw by none other than Matt B
(yes I know hard to believe!!!!) more Matt B beautiful fielding later
(yes I know hard to believe!!!!) and BW were starting to panic (and wheeze a little!!!)

Yorkie finally brought himself on and preceded to put down a dolly before getting his usual 3 cheap wickets to boost his averarge. BW posting a testing 165.

Tea was delightful as always and with no Jack or Toby our skipper asked Ben and myself to open the batting. With absolutely no thought for my impending hip replacement Ben then preceded to try and run me out a lot!!! As if ordered to by the skipper Ben kept trying until he finally succeeded and I limped back up the hill cursing my hip amongst other things!!!!!

Batsmen came and went (ie. I was sulking in the changing room so didn't see much) until M H-T came to the crease. One glorious cover drive went one bounce for four and the crowd started to believe!!! As if to prove that that shot was a complete fluke Michael then tried to slog the next ball and got castled (thus proving that it probably was!!!!!)

Matt B then took over the mantle of extraordinarily flukey shots until another inevitable conclusion!!! As often happens in these games we had no chance of chasing down the oppositions score and the final inevitable conclusion occurred when Yorkie came in to boost his average with his usual not out!!!!!

A very lazy Sunday afternoon on a beautiful summer's day only slightly ruined by cricket!!!!
