Wield vs Presidents XI , Sunday 23rd June

Weather - Glorious(ish)

Match summary – Fantastic day, food oh and a great game!!

After a stunning BBQ amazingly Wield were put in the field for the 100th game in a row vs Presidents XI

As if given a target of 400 in 20 overs by our President the carnage began!!! with Robson Snr(me) unable to run and Philip (just as slow) the Presidents plan to play the ball down to 3rd man also improving the scoring rate. One lofted drive too many and a dolly floated towards Josh who in true Wield style shelled the catch!! Robson Jnr(Jack) did a great job of looking like someone waiting to bat and the standard of fielding declined below the very small bar we normally set!!! This was shattered when a suicidal single was called and new boy Ed picked up the ball and hurled it towards Max, being new to Wield, Ed probably thought this was a regulation run out but the rest of us knew the chances of Max catching the ball and breaking the stumps were very slim. To our utter amazement not only did Max catch the ball but the stumps were smashed and the Presidents XI were 1 down...... imagine our surprise!!!!!!

With the Presidents still trying to post 400!!! the wickets kept falling until their number 5 came in. Robson Jnr Jnr(Harry) had been recruited by Lola's team and strode to the crease with purpose, Josh pitched one up and Harry smashed his first ball straight past his brother for 3 and for the first time in the match Jack was desperate to field!!!!

Harry reached double figures before Robin was brought on. Not respecting his elders or any reputations Harry danced down the wicket twice to Robin much to everyones amusement!! Robin finally got his man(11 year old!!!) when Harry chipped one back to him and then claimed that he had better get him this year because he would have little chance later!!!!

The wickets kept falling and the score continued to rattle along until the Presidents finally ran out of batsmen with the score on 190ish

More food was supposed to be available for tea but with the early finish Wield had to bat for 25 minutes. Robson Snr and Jnr opened the batting and what followed was as close to speed cricket as you could get at Wield!
In 25 minutes the Presidents XI bowled 12 overs!!!!! Jack and I walked back up the hill for tea exhausted!!! but with 25 on the board.

After a thankfully light tea we continued batting until I hit a long hop straight to mid wicket!!! Robson Jnr batted beautifully again until he edged one to the keeper, in true Yorkshire style he waited until the umpire gave him out (I heard the nick in the changing room!!!!) apparently in the team huddle afterwards Robson Jnr Jnr announced to his new teammates that "in our family we didn't walk!!!!" if she had been there Robson Snr Snr (Sam) would have been very proud....NOT!!!!

This was the start of the usual Wield collapse with wickets being needlessly gifted until Ed joined Josh at the crease. Needing nearly 100 runs at 6 an over the boys started smashing the bowlers all around Wield. A couple of massive sixes from Ed and we had a chance to win. As always happens just as we looked like winning Josh played one shot too many and the game was back in the balance. Fortunately our skipper had hidden himself down at number 9, a few choice blows later Ed had 50 and Wield had a deserved victory!!!!

A brilliant day and a really fun match
