History

Together with the generosity of individual benefactors, the club was able to replace the portaloo and the mobile home with a more suitable pavilion. It was opened on 3rd July 1988 and has been improved over the years including, as a tribute to Freddie Yorke, a new roof and clock.

In 1993 Wield distinguished itself by winning the Medstead and District Cricket Knock Out Cup, defeating Grayshott by 79 runs in the final and sparking 17 years of "when I played for Wield " debate in the Yew Tree.

In recent years the Downings, the Bretts, the Fergusons and now Tim Gray have played their part in continuing The Yew Tree's support of cricket. The pub is the traditional venue for the ramblings of the cricket club commitee (over a few pints of course), the A.G.M is a good village occasion as is The Players End of Season Do and The Yew Tree game is now a permanent fixture.

Sunday afternoons on The Hook have become part of village life. Friendships are made, gossip exchanged, advice given, children and dogs frequently out number the players.
